New Roads Intensive Outpatient Program
Personalized Treatment Programs Designed for Long-Term Success & Recovery.
Our Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP)
New Roads Behavioral Health’s Intensive Outpatient Program is a 12-week program that offers structured therapeutic support. Care remains engaging, and patients can enjoy more flexibility in their daily lives. This treatment option allows for more freedom and independence, while also providing continued care, encouragement, and foundational support.
What Is an Intensive Outpatient Program?
An intensive outpatient program is a type of treatment program for individuals recovering from mental health conditions and substance use disorders (SUDs). Participating in an IOP doesn’t require a person to become a resident of an inpatient treatment facility. Instead, individuals engage in daily life activities, such as work, school, or even spending time with their family.
Throughout the week, clients are required to attend multiple individual and group therapy sessions as part of their treatment. Many mental health professionals also encourage plenty of family involvement and responsible medication management.
Over time, clients learn how to develop healthy coping mechanisms. They also gain trusted support systems through friends, family, and other individuals working on their own recovery.
When Do Individuals Join IOPs?
Clients may choose to join an intensive outpatient program for various reasons. Some individuals initially join an IOP as a way to receive more structured support while also managing their responsibilities at home, work, or school.
Most clients will join an IOP as a type of transitional outpatient treatment from a residential program or a partial hospitalization program (PHP).
This flexible treatment plan lets either party practice their coping skills and ease back into a normal routine. Individuals can also continue receiving encouragement and advice from their primary therapist and support groups throughout their weekly therapy sessions.
Intensive outpatient programs are an excellent middle-ground for individuals dealing with substance use and other mental health challenges.
At New Roads, we treat an IOP as the first step toward your life’s next chapter. Our highly trained and licensed professionals are here to guide you through this transition, so you always have the support you need.
Our 12-Week IOP Mental Health Treatment
At New Roads Behavioral Health, our Utah intensive outpatient program is designed to ensure our clients experience the same progress and support they receive during inpatient treatment, while also having the flexibility of outpatient care.
This treatment plan involves weekly scheduled appointments that include group and individual therapy sessions, as well as family counseling and workshops. These meetings are all intended to help patients develop connections and improve coping skills, such as emotion regulation, deep breathing, and staying grounded. Everything will be personalized according to your comfort and needs.
Over time, our goal will be to help you:
- Achieve personal stability
- Reduce mental illness symptoms
- Build your independence
- Move forward without worry of relapse
But even then, it doesn’t end there. At New Roads, we are committed to ensuring that our clients know we’re here for them. Our entire staff is ready to provide long-term guidance, support, and encouragement to help everyone who walks through our doors live a happy and healthy life.
What Our Intensive Outpatient Program Includes:
Individual Therapy
One-on-one sessions with your primary therapist, who will help diagnose and treat the disorder or multiple disorders that challenge you (such as depression, PTSD, and eating or anxiety disorders).
In individual therapy, outpatient clients will receive treatment tailored to their specific needs, such as individuals living with bipolar disorder.
A New Roads mental health professional will help you gain a thorough understanding of your condition and what you can do to make meaningful progress toward recovery and long-term wellness.
Group Therapy
Psychiatrist Services
For individuals following their IOP, mental health services, such as mental health assessments and medication management, will help you move toward noticeable progress in your treatment.
Our psychiatrists and medical staff also assist in managing challenging conditions through options such as our schizophrenia and bipolar disorder treatment.
Conditions We Treat in Our Program
While many providers may offer outpatient mental health treatments, we at New Roads offer evidence-based treatments, expertise, and a strong commitment to our patients that you won’t find anywhere else. Our clinically trained team works with clients that other facilities aren’t equipped to serve. With us, you’re not at a “last resort” facility. Instead, you’re finally where you need to be in order to heal, grow, and become the best version of you yet.
Below are some disorders and conditions our team provides treatments for:
Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD)
Individuals suffering from BPD often have issues maintaining their relationships, as well as managing emotions and stress. At New Roads, part of your IOP can include comprehensive borderline personality disorder treatments, such as our specialized Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), which can help you improve your interpersonal communication, mindfulness, distress tolerance, and emotional regulation.
Obsessive Compulsive Disorder
By making cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) a part of your intensive outpatient program, our team will help you reduce distressing thoughts and repetitive behaviors. We’ll work on new skills that help you lessen anxiety and compulsive behaviors at safe, gradual levels.
Schizophrenia
As one of the few programs in Utah specializing in complex disorders like schizophrenia, we are committed to helping each of our clients minimize their symptoms and pursue lasting recovery. Our Schizophrenia treatment helps you develop the skills and knowledge to enhance your daily living. Also, through psychiatric evaluations and supervised medication management, IOP clients are likely to experience symptom relief and improvement over time.
Dual Diagnosis
For individuals with a dual diagnosis, IOP clients at New Roads offer a variety of treatment options that address substance use and co-occurring mental health conditions like BPD, bipolar disorder, and PTSD. We’ll provide dual diagnosis treatments that help you identify triggers, reduce harm, prevent relapse, and ensure you have a reliable support system to aid your progress through recovery.
Benefits of IOP for Transitional Care
Transitioning from a residential program or partial hospitalization program can be overwhelming. That’s why New Roads personalizes our Intensive Outpatient Program to help the process feel as smooth and stress-free as possible.
That way, you can return to your daily life while receiving the structured support you need to move forward. Here are the biggest advantages we’ve seen for clients entering our IOP:
A Structured Step-Down From Higher Levels of Care
Individuals recovering from substance use disorders or other mental health conditions often need the relief and assurance of continued structure in their lives.
Through New Roads Behavioral Health’s outpatient program and psychiatric services, outpatient clients can exercise their independence while staying within a predictable schedule of therapeutic recovery and consistent psychiatric oversight.
This way, you can easily maintain your momentum of personal growth and strength, enabling you to achieve long-term recovery and wellness.
Relapse & Crisis Prevention
Another advantage IOPs provide is that they create a support system that reduces the chances of relapse or symptom escalation. Through our treatment, we help our clients identify early warning signs or triggers that could aggravate their condition.
Our mental health specialists will also assist you in creating a personalized crisis plan when triggers or mental health symptoms arise. Through building emotional regulation skills, maintaining a healthy daily routine, and consistent medication management, IOP clients can learn to stay strong in the toughest moments of their recovery.
Focus on Lasting Recovery & Independence
Following an intensive outpatient program can help you reclaim your life and your future. You learn how to overcome the challenges you face from your mental health condition or substance use disorder by developing basic yet effective skills that last a lifetime. These include:
- Emotional regulation
- Healthy, open communication
- Community engagement
- Problem solving
- Time management
These valuable skills can not only help improve your symptoms and guide you toward recovery, but also transform you into a more holistic and well-rounded individual.
At New Roads, we don’t simply treat a list of conditions; we treat the whole person. We help you learn how to manage bipolar disorder, BPD, and a variety of other conditions that shouldn’t keep you from enjoying a full life any longer. Our aim is to help you become a better version of yourself and move towards a lifetime of peace, self-worth, and contentment.
