James Preston
LCSW TherapistJames Preston received his Bachelor’s of Science in Behavioral Science in 2009 with an emphasis in Psychology from Utah Valley University. He then completed a Master’s in Social Work from the University of Utah in 2014. James completed internships at Wasatch Mental Health and Clinical Consultants. Since obtaining his license in clinical social work (LCSW), he has experience in various capacities. He started working at New Roads Behavioral Health in 2016 and will be the first to tell you how efficient New Roads is compared to other companies. James has been practicing motivational interviewing, mindfulness, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavioral therapy, (DBT), and is certified in eye-movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) for trauma work. James is sensitive to all kinds of topics in therapy including: marital issues, LGBT issues, interpersonal conflicts, trauma, religious concerns, legal issues, substance abuse, and various mental health diagnoses. He believes that a good working relationship with a therapist requires vulnerability, compassion, and determination. Originally from Orange, CA, James enjoys spending time with his wife, daughter and son. James enjoys traveling, eating at new places, practicing the piano and guitar, watching movies and TV shows, playing video games and board games, and playing and watching basketball.
