Outpatient and Aftercare Programs

Ongoing support for a more fulfilled and successful life.

Outpatient Programs

We’ll help you keep your recovery on track.

For some people struggling with addiction and/or a mental health disorder, outpatient care offers enough structure and support to help them get their lives back on track.

This program combines individual/group counseling sessions, relapse prevention planning, and random drug testing, while still allowing clients to live at home and continue with their everyday lives.

One of our therapists will help each individual assess their situation, identify their particular challenges, and build a customized treatment plan.

  • Open to all ages and genders
  • Individuals with BPD (who often benefit from a less intensive, more integrated level of care)
  • Allows clients to continue to work and go to school
New Roads Behavioral Health | Outpatient and Aftercare

Mindful preparation for a better future.

While our outpatient program is set up to handle both substance abuse and mental health issues individually, as well as dual diagnosis clients (co-occurring disorders). Since over half of those with substance abuse disorders have also been diagnosed with a mental health or personality disorder, we take this into account during all levels of care.

  • Cognitive and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (CBT/DBT)
  • Motivational Interviewing
  • Regular Drug Testing
  • Regular Therapy Sessions (individual and/or group)

What does this program include?

Individuals are encouraged to work on evaluating their lives and making positive changes that will help them to avoid situations that lead to drug and alcohol use. Masters-level therapists and experienced counselors work with individuals to identify their challenges and help them plan for a better life free of addiction.

Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT)

Dialectical Behavioral Therapy is recognized as one of the most useful treatments for borderline individuals. Our therapists have been extensively trained at the Portland DBT Institute and we offer this treatment process for every client due to the broad scope of its treatment potential.

Mindfulness & Meditation

Using techniques derived from Buddhist practices, clients learn to focus non-judgmentally on the world around them, bringing their rational and emotional minds into balance. They learn to stop judging themselves so harshly, and to quietly observe their intense thoughts and feelings rather than immediately reacting to them.

Emotional Regulation

Getting hijacked by emotions in a time of crisis can be damaging. DBT offers skills for identifying, understanding, and managing these emotions, no matter how overwhelming they may seem. By applying techniques from other DBT skill sets, such as mindfulness and distress tolerance, clients learn to control their feelings rather than being controlled by them.

Distress Tolerance

Most of our clients are used to handling distress in harmful ways, such as drinking or using drugs. We teach skills to offer a healthier alternative. Clients learn how to accept and tolerate distress in an observant, nonjudgemental fashion—and to make more appropriate, less destructive decisions.

Interpersonal Effectiveness

These relationship skills focus on helping individuals interact positively and productively with others. We teach our clients how to get their needs met, how to handle conflict, and how to keep their interpersonal relationships strong without resorting to manipulation or other destructive behaviors.
