Woman's Road to Healing (Outpatient)

Mindfulness | Wholeness | Success

WorTH at Cottonwood Heights Outpatient Offices:

The WoRTH program at New Roads is structured to offer help, healing, and support to women, helping them build a strong foundation for a more successful future. With dialectical behavior therapy and dual diagnosis, we give you control over your recovery, teaching you essential life skills and coping strategies to help you find your best self.

This program includes:

Cottonwood accommodates the PHP, IOP and Outpatient components of the WoRTH program. Similar to the Provo RTC, WoRTH at Cottonwood offers a comprehensive DBT program, including the five modes and functions described earlier.

12-Step Group Meetings
The 12-Step process has been in use for decades by Alcoholics Anonymous and other addiction recovery programs. These meetings offer clients the chance to commit to sobriety together, share experiences and struggles, and begin to develop a healthier mindset and lifestyle.
Random Drug Testing
Drug testing is the most obvious way to tell whether a client’s recovery process is on track, or whether they need additional help with relapse prevention.
Medical Management
Many of our clients require regular medication to help them manage mental illnesses or other conditions. We will help them stay on schedule, refill their prescriptions, and ensure their medical well-being. (Additional cost will apply.)
24/7 Staff Availability
In case of emergency, personal crisis, or any other need, our clients are able to contact staff members at any time, day or night.
Group Sessions
These group therapy meetings typically focus on one aspect of treatment at a time, allowing clients to come together to practice their recovery skills. Topics include DBT, cognitive behavior, life skills training, and more.
Individual Sessions
It is important for all our clients to have a safe space to talk to a knowledgeable, caring professional. One-on-one time with a therapist allows them to share their thoughts, feelings, and concerns without fear of judgement, and helps us determine how best to support their recovery.
Family Sessions
As family members, your support is crucial to your loved one’s healing process. If you are unable to attend in-person, these meetings can take place over the phone, or through Skype.
Relapse Prevention Planning
Relapses can happen to anyone, and are often discouraging. This is why we help each client develop a personal relapse prevention plan from the very beginning of treatment, to stop slip-ups before they happen.
Residential Facility
Residential facility at New Roads Behavioral Health is located in Utah. Providing the best in medical, psychological and group therapies.
Recreation
Our treatment programs incorporate a variety of recreational activities including: bowling, skiing, basketball, hiking and more.
Transitional Program
For some of our clients, residential care isn’t quite enough to help them get back on their feet. Our transitional program provides these clients with ongoing medical oversight and therapeutic support, while helping them build the skills they need to move forward in their lives. We offer semi-independent apartment living, life skills training, education and internship opportunities, and more—all geared toward ensuring a healthy, successful, sober future.

Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT)

The term dual diagnosis treatment has been usurped recently. New Roads, with the on-site and full-time psychiatric care, provides true ASAM-defined Dual Diagnosis Enhanced (DDE) treatment.

Clinicians participated in an 80-hour comprehensive DBT training.  Beyond this, most staff members have considerable DBT education, including DBT trauma treatment, DBT Substance Use Disorder treatment, and extensive mindfulness training. Notably, many of the direct care staff have received comprehensive DBT education, allowing them to offer in-the-moment skills and behavior coaching.

Comprehensive DBT Treatment

As at the RTC, Cottonwood staff members utilize the five modes and functions of DBT.  The following list describes what services allow New Roads clinicians and staff members to achieve the functions associated with each mode:

  1. Individual Therapy – Building new behaviors to attain a life worth living
  2. DBT Skills – Acquisition and strengthening more adaptive skills
  3. Structuring the Environment – Case management, Substance use treatment, etc.
  4. Telephone Consultation – Participating clients can call their therapist for coaching
  5. Consultation Team – Therapy and consultation for the therapists

DBT Skills groups are offered several times throughout the week to accommodate client schedules.  Case managers and therapists are available at Cottonwood to work with clients. DBT insists that therapists give their cell phone numbers to clients, so they can coach clients in the environment, which is important in outpatient care of clients with BPD and SUD.

About Our Program

New Roads Outpatient program for clients with Borderline Personality Disorder typically consists of individual therapy once per week, telephone consultation as needed, case management, psychiatry, and a weekly three-hour DBT Skills class. This structure is a standard comprehensive outpatient DBT treatment.

Typically, WoRTH clients are referred from acute care settings, insurers, or other programs.  Thus, New Roads maintains collaborative relationships with payers, psychiatric hospitals, emergency rooms, law enforcement, etc. New Roads particularly coordinates with Utah Valley Regional Medical Center.

  • The WoRTH program accepts clients 365 days per year
  • Business hours are 9:00 to 5:00 Monday through Friday.  IOP groups are 6:00 to 9:00 Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays.
  • Admissions are preferred Monday through Friday to ensure adequate and quick intervention.
  • Lengths of stay (LOS)are based upon average historically approved spans by care managers.  PHP LOS is on average 9 weeks. IOP average LOS is 35 days.
  • Medical services are coordinated with community clinics.

Who Says Treatment Can’t Be Fun?

  • Three recreational sessions a week
  • Basketball, volleyball, table tennis, pool, ping pong, and foosball
  • Access to books, television, and video games
  • Open spaces for jogging, skateboarding, and other outdoor recreation

Active, Positive, Growth-Oriented Community

During residential treatment, we encourage our clients to practice maintaining healthy, balanced lifestyle. In addition to addiction, self-harm, and other destructive habits, many adults struggle with rigid thinking patterns. These hamper our ability to learn, change, and progress. Creative expression, thought exercises, and physical activity can help break this rigidity, allowing our clients to achieve greater emotional freedom and growth.
